Tarik Berber’s moving-image practice grows directly from drawing. Each project begins on paper, where repeated marks, figures and gestures are translated into movement frame by frame. From the early hand-drawn experiments Dulcitone (2013) and Wunderkammer (2014), animation becomes an extension of Berber’s painterly language, opening drawing into sound, rhythm and duration.

In 2022, Berber created the official video for Dubbi by Marracash, one of the major figures in contemporary Italian rap. The animation was made from 2,500 hand-drawn images, at approximately 12 drawings per second, developed in response to the rhythm and psychological intensity of the song, from Marracash’s triple-platinum album Noi, loro, gli altri. A selection of the original drawings was subsequently presented in the exhibition DUBBI su carta at Assab One in Milan, curated by Collezione Ramo.

His most recent work, Lint, continues this exploration through an experimental animated film drawn and directed by Berber, produced by Aleksandar Hemon, with music by Cielo Hemon. Across these projects, drawing opens into sound, rhythm and duration while retaining the physical, handmade quality at the core of his practice.
