Bunny on Steroids

Bunny on Steroids presents more than one hundred drawings selected from a body of approximately 4,000 works created during the making of Lint, Tarik Berber’s hand-drawn animated film developed in collaboration with writer Aleksandar Hemon.

Originally conceived as individual frames within a moving image, the drawings are removed from their cinematic sequence and brought back into stillness. What was created to disappear almost instantly on screen becomes visible as an autonomous image: traces of repetition, gesture and transformation accumulated through an intensive process of drawing.

Figures and fragments recur throughout the exhibition — Grandma Danica, a young girl, hands, a lizard — appearing, changing and dissolving from one image into another. Their shifting presence reflects the logic of animation itself, where movement exists only through a succession of small transformations.

The exhibition title introduces an element of irony into this demanding process. The unlikely image of a gentle bunny amplified into something excessive becomes a playful metaphor for the physical and creative stamina behind thousands of handmade drawings.

By separating the individual frames from the finished animation, Bunny on Steroids exposes the structure beneath movement. Drawing becomes both process and final work, while repetition becomes a language of change, memory and metamorphosis.

I met Tarik Berber through Damir Imamović, my dear friend and collaborator. […] In the end, we agreed that we had to make something together.

I didn’t want to prescribe an approach or ask him to illustrate the words or moments from the song. I think of making a video as a conversation, as the shared creation of a new experience and additional meaning. […]

When I finally saw Lint, the human, living presence of Tarik and his vision knocked me off my feet, and I was happy and proud that I had persuaded him to embark on this adventure together.

Tarik’s artistic talent and mastery are immediately apparent. What I discovered through working with him was the generosity and integrity of his talent — a combination that is not so common.
